About Us

Sharing the love of music in our community

The Los Angeles School of Music was founded by Alana Miles, a USC Thornton School of Music graduate, just before the birth of her first son, out of a desire to make music lessons with exceptional teachers more accessible. She and her husband have three young children, and want to make a positive impact on the lives of Angelenos. They believe that music is the universal language to unite us all.

LASoM offers piano lessons, guitar, ukulele, flute, oboe and more in Los Angeles, in your home or your teacher's home-studio. In a city known for bad traffic and sky-high rental rates, we've decided to do away with the traditional music school model with a storefront. We believe that we can provide the same, if not, even better experience than other music studios do, right in your home. Students and instructors are paired up according to musical compatibility and proximity in order to increase enjoyment and decrease drive time.

Our students range from school-age children to business owners who are looking for a creative outlet. Our students have been part of the California Band Director's Association All-State Honor Band, Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association Honor Groups, place high in competitions, consistently win first chair in their school band, have attended Orange County School of Arts, and have even gone on to attend Harvard University (really!). They also just jam out with their friends or play a little Lizst with wine in solitude on Friday nights.

Yearly recitals are offered, and various opportunities to enter competitions are available

When you sign-up with us, you are not obligated to adhere to long-term contracts. We also believe you will love your first lesson so much that we offer a money back guarantee - if you do not like your first lesson, your money will be returned with no questions asked.

Give us a try! We've been waiting to help you on your musical journey.

How it Works

Our Director, Alana, will match you with a teacher.

Meet your teacher and start playing!

When my son began piano lessons with Alana he was 4 years old and had no clue how to play an instrument. She is very patient and a great teacher, as well as very detailed with her students. Every week she provides him with flashcards and homework assignments for him to study at home so he can practice. It’s been 5 months since my son enrolled with Alana and now he can read music notes as well play piano. I’m very proud of his improvement, and continue to look forward to him learning more. He looks forward to class every week.

My son (6yrs old) has been taking piano lessons with Chelsea for the past year. This is his first experience with music lessons and it has been wonderful. Chelsea has been a caring, careful, and patient teacher. She is always laughing through the lessons, and makes my son feel so comfortable and relaxed. He looks forward to his lessons, and has been so happy to learn how to play songs. He plays for family and friends, and loved participating in his first recital. He has gone from no music experience to learning the grand staff and where to put his fingers in the past year. We appreciate the ease with which the music school works, using paypal, email, and the teacher coming to our house. It has really been a wonderful first year of lessons and we expect to continue.

I have been taking lessons with Chelsea for a few months and she has taught me so much in such a short amount of time. I have been playing piano since I was a child however have never been able to read sheet music. In just a few months, I have started reading almost everything we practice without having to write in notes. Thank you to Chelsea and the LA School of Music for a great opportunity thus far!
