Piano Lessons Near Me

We have piano teachers near you! We offer quality piano lessons once per week, for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students, in your home. You may also arrange to travel to your teacher's home-studio. Whichever you decide, we have teachers all over the Los Angeles area, usually within a 15-minute drive or less.

The piano is a great instrument to start with, as it sets you up with a solid music foundation that you can then transfer to any other instrument if you choose to do so. It's also used in many genres of music. Piano lessons are great for children as young as 4 years old, as the child is able to produce a sound instantly by pressing keys. The keyboard provides a visual for learning note reading, rhythms, and music theory. Did you know that studies have shown that piano lessons can increase your IQ level? Making the decision to invest in piano lessons will have lifelong benefits.

A common question we get is whether the student needs a piano right away. The short answer is no, but in order to make steady progress in lessons, the student needs to have an instrument to practice on at home, so you should acquire a piano after the first lesson. Another common question is whether an acoustic piano is necessary. If you have an acoustic, that's wonderful, otherwise a digital keyboard is often a more cost-effective option. A digital keyboard should have 88-keys, with weighted keys. Weighted keys means that the keys have resistance like an acoustic piano. This is important for being able to play dynamics (loud and soft). We can provide assistance with purchasing a piano or digital keyboard.

All teachers go through a competitive application process and are employees of the school. To be a teacher with LA School School of Music, teachers must have at least a Bachelor of Music and three years of teaching experience. They then go through a final interview round. This means that our teachers are knowledgable and passionate about teaching music, as well as people persons. Most of our teachers work with or have worked with the LA Philharmonic, LA Master Chorale, LA Chamber Orchestra, LA Opera, Long Beach Opera, Pacific Opera Project, YOLA, Orange County School of the Arts, Classical KUSC, LA Winds, and worked with big names in music like Gustavo Dudamel, Michael Tilson Thomas, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and more. You can also catch them performing in the Glendale Noon Concerts

You will learn how to play the piano in the traditional method, with fun lesson books like the My First Piano Adventure to keep the young student interested. Older beginners will use books like Piano Adventures. Beginning adult students often use the Alfred series, supplemented by the Bastien Older Beginner Library.

Our piano teachers teach proper technique, hand position, and sound production. Students have the option to participate in two recitals per year.
