I’m often less than excited about the available repertoire for beginning clarinetists, and I can tell the students feel the same. A lot of books are outdated, in my opinion, like the Rubank books. I’ve come across some material that I like, like Kyle Coughlin’s books, and I usually end up using band books for beginners because they have recognizable tunes and colorful illustrations.
I decided to make a piece that would be visually appealing, easy to master, and memorable for a young clarinet player who’s only been playing for a few weeks. Since I have kids of my own, I know they love shiny things! I also know they’re interested in things a little out of the ordinary. Hence the creation of Sparkle Tree. Enjoy!
